Game Day Awards v Wagga Tigers

Another cool start to our home game weekend against the Tigers.  A bit of crunch on the ground and certainly some chill in the air, but all set up for a pretty good day.  We got a decent gate and the canteen and bar almost ran dry, and while double up senior junior days may not always give us the wins we want, they rarely fail to take the smile off the face of the Treasurers!

Well done to all the award winners.  We didn’t have a lot of on-field or on-court success this week, but the spirit of contest was great and we’ll all be better for the run.

Next Game: Round 9 v Leeton-Whitton Crows at Leeton on Saturday 22 June.  Post-game awards back at the New Coolamon Hotel and the always awesome hospitality of Daniel Milne and Co.

FOOTY

First Grade:

Very tense start to the game with the Tigers turning on the contested heat for all of the first half, where they dominated the tap and clearance and subsequently inside 50s to lead by 37 points at the long break.  The Hoppers picked their game up in the third term to win the quarter well, but despite some second half herculean efforts from Luke Redfern, Max Hillier and H Bradley, we couldn’t peg the Tigers back.

There’s no excuses from the Hoppers.  While losing Jerry Maslin late in the week and then Zach Brad early in the game didn’t help, the reality is that our boys were beaten to the footy more than they’d like and were defeated by a better side on the day.

Hoppers 7-6-48 defeated by Wagga Tigers 11-15-81

Goal Kickers: J. Barrett 3, C. McKelvie 2, M. McGowan, J. Redfern

Notable Mentions: L. Redfern, M. Hillier, H. Bradley, C. McKelvie, B. Glyde, J. Maddox

Award Winners: Luke Redfern (Commercial Club), Max Hillier, Hayden Bradley (Bottom Pub)

Reserve Grade:

Another tough day for the Magoos, but this time a scrap where they picked up the chocolates after an amazingly competitive, relentless four quarter effort that went down to the last second of the game.  There’s some serious spirit building in this group of green men and through refusing to give up any kick, contest or ground, they battled their way to a well-deserved win.

Ho Leary had another belter as he always does when it’s an arm wrestle, Jack McPherson continued his excellent form of late with a mountain of second efforts around the footy, while it was a couple of youthful characters in Ryan Chamberlain and Benny Edyvean that also stood up in the heat of battle to will their less experienced comrades to victory.

Hoppers 7-5-47 defeated Tigers 5-13-43

Goal Kickers: T. Garrett 3, D. Chandler, A. Gain, B. Edyvean, J. McPherson

Notable Mentions: H. Leary, B. Edyvean, D. Chandler, J. Mason, L. Owens, R. Chamberlain

Award Winners: Jack McPherson (Boat and Motor), Ryan Chambo (Weekend away), Ben Edyvean (Breakfast Pack)

Under 17s:

The young Hoppers jumped out of the box with an early goal but it became a battle from there on in as the Tigers ran stronger for longer on the back of some slick skills and four extras on the bench.  Despite the loss, the boys sit just out of the five and know a big second half to the season can still seem them making finals.  This week it’s Leeton at Leeton and an opportunity to re-group, push the cold away and find the energy and attitude that saw them nail Griffith a few weeks ago.  It’s definitely in them while ever they continue to work hard.  For the Hoppers Jake Neale has been a colossus all season down back and continues to really develop his game, while Arch Buchegger and Jack Foster continued their high work rates up and down the ground all day.

Hoppers 5-4-34 defeated by Tigers 16-14-110

Goal Kickers: A. Umar, J. Neale, W. McGowan, L. Crawford, B. Leary

Notable Mentions: A. Buchegger, J. Neale , J. Foster, W. McGowan, W. Doyle, L. Crawford

Award Winners: Arch Buchegger, Jake Neale, Jack Foster
