Jake Barrett joins the Hoppers

The CRFNC is over the moon to confirm the signing of former GWS GIANTS and Brisbane Lions AFL listed player Jake Barrett, for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Jake was drafted to the GIANTS in the AFL National Draft in 2013 at pick 97 from Temora / NSW–ACT Rams, where he played one senior game in 2015. The 23 year old then made his way to the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2016 via pick 2 of the Rookie Draft, where he went on to play 22 senior games and kicked 19 goals.

Jake is a tough midfielder with great work-rate and a massive motor. He not only brings AFL level experience to the Hoppers on game day, but his professionalism, attitude and commitment on the training paddock and around the Club will have an amazing impact on every player through the seniors and juniors. He’s well respected for his endurance efforts and this, together with his toughness around preparation, will teach important lessons and reap great rewards for our playing group. Add to this the fact that Jake is very much a down to earth country bloke who will fit in brilliantly around our Club and community.

Jake’s excited about joining the Hoppers, is super keen to rip into pre-season, and is especially looking forward to working with several of our younger players. His commitment for at least two years illustrates how serious he is about this next phase of his footy.

Given the interest in AFL level players generally, that Jake chose to come to the Hoppers is a massive statement for our Club and our leadership group.

Welcome to the Hoppers Jake, fiancé Emily and the wider Barrett family! It’s absolutely brilliant to have you on board!
